Introduction to Excavator Sensor
2026/10/22
Excavators use a network of specialized electronic and mechanical sensors to monitor machine movement, hydraulic pressure, fluid levels, and positioning for operator safety and automation.
Common Types of Excavator Sensors
• Position and Angle Sensors: Track the movement of the boom, stick (arm), and bucket using angle sensors, draw-wire encoders, or cylinder-integrated sensors to calculate exact cutting-edge coordinates.
• Pressure Sensors: Measure hydraulic fluid pressure to monitor system load, prevent overloads, and track operational stress.
• Inclinometers and Tilt Sensors: Measure the pitch, roll, and sideways tilt of the machine's upper body and tiltrotator attachments to assist with 3D machine control and stability.
• Temperature Sensors: Monitor engine coolant, hydraulic oil, and other thermal limits to prevent overheating.
• Fluid Level Sensors: Track fuel, hydraulic oil, and coolant levels inside service tanks.
• Speed and Travel Sensors: Detect wheel or track drive speeds (such as dual-speed travel modes) and monitor working hours vs. idle time via wireless or IoT tracking modules.
